The Young Professionals point of view

We invited three young geologists and seismic interpreters to work with us on a three-month regional project. We offered them a steep learning curve, a great working environment and the opportunity of being thrown out in the deep (with us being there to catch them should they ever need it).

And now, as we are approaching the end of the project period, we asked our team of young professionals how it all went.

In their own words, here are the experiences of three very talented young people; Oluwatosin Triumphant Nana, Syeda Vania Mansoor and Orlando Butar Butar.

Orlando: – I learned how to build relationships and trust within the team

On lessons learned: “The most valuable lessons I have gained in ExploCrowd has been how to manage time, solve challenges, and build team chemistry. Work might be easy and pleasant one day, but it can also be hectic and demanding the other day. I learned how to prioritize, alongside building relationships and trust within the team. Hearing my colleagues’ share their thoughts and advice has been beneficial to both my professional and personal development.”

On unexpected learning: “An unexpected moment came 2,5 weeks before I was done with the ExploCrowd regional project. A new task was handed to me, and in normal circumstances, this duty would take at least 4-5 weeks. I felt a bit under pressure, and suddenly my working pace was slightly declining. Fortunately, I asked Sidsel for guidance. With her assistance, I regained my motivation and boosted my working pace, and eventually we managed to finish the task! This has taught me a lot about working under pressure and not to be afraid of asking for help.”

Orlando is eager to learn more about the petroleum and CCS business in Norway. Please let us know if you would like us to bring you into contact with this positive, talented Petroleum Geoscientist!

Vania: – The company culture makes everyone feel involved and valued

On transparency: “From the very start, one thing that stood out was how open Sidsel was with her plans for the business. She openly shared everything and made everyone included, even those like me who would be there for a short time. She has very effectively projected her ambitions and enthusiasm on to the rest of us so everyone is in line with goals of the company and know what they will be contributing towards. This kind of company culture makes everyone feel involved and valued. And that also brings in the culture of trust where you are trusted with your capabilities and judgements – but of course discussions and questions to clear any doubts are always welcome.”

On lessons learned: “Although I have not been working here for a long time, ExploCrowd has been a good organization to start my career with. The environment is conducive to learning, and there is freedom to trust your instinct and judgments. So, while that may result in some mistakes, there is no guilt because it is considered part of the learning process. And then support from the more experienced team members is always reassuring. Working on the Norwegian Sea regional project certainly offered a lot to learn in a short amount of time, and then the time constraint also improved time management and communication skills. The overall flexible environment at the office makes work more fun, and in my opinion, this ultimately leads to more productivity and better results.”

Vania is deeply interested in machine learning and its application in exploration geosciences. Please let us know if you would like us to bring you into contact with this ambitious Geoscientist!

Oluwatosin: – We were given the chance to grow and succeed

On possibilities: “In a world where global warming poses a threat to humans and every other form of life inhabiting the Earth, a balance between production and usage of fossil fuel and reduction in carbon emission is paramount. Hence, working on the Norwegian Sea project offers a unique benefit in the sense that this area is highly researched for both its oil and gas production and its CO2 storage capabilities. Among other things, I believe having the opportunity to work on multiple seismic sections and understanding some of the complex structures on a regional scale in this area will most likely provide me with opportunities for Carbon capture, utilization, and storage (CCUS) projects in the Norwegian sea and working on other regional seismic interpretation projects.”

On lessons learned: In a simple term, working on this project has taught me to be persistent, relentless, and find a quick problem resolution. My time working on this project at ExploCrowd is nothing short of one of the company’s philosophies which is “creating an atmosphere where people could grow and thrive, be proud of their work and turn it into good sustainable business”. Me and my colleagues were given the chance to grow and succeed on this project through a free will to work with input and help from the CEO and other members of the core team.
